Halloween is almost here! Which means it is the perfect time to make sure your jack o’ lantern looks its best and all the finishing touches on your costume are done. Most importantly, make sure that you know how to stay safe while celebrating the holiday. Keep these Halloween safety tips in mind to ensure that everyone has a safe and fun Halloween.

  • If you child’s costume includes a sword or knife, make sure that it is flexible and short to help prevent any accidental injuries.
  • Make sure that all costumes fit properly and do not drag on the floor to avoid tripping and falling while trick or treating.
  • Use reflective tape or stickers on your child’s costume to make them more visible to passing drivers. Also have them carry a flashlight or glow stick to help them see and be seen in the dark.
  • Instead of wearing a mask that can obstruct their view, use face paint to complete your child’s costume. Make sure to test the paint on a small portion of their skin to ensure it does not irritate their skin.
  • Never allow children under the age of 12 to trick or treat alone. Always make sure that they have proper adult supervision.
  • If you have older children who will be trick or treating with their friends, make sure that they stay in neighborhoods that they are familiar with.
  • Before allowing your children to enjoy their candy, inspect if for possible hazards. Throw away any candy that is open or that looks like it has been tampered with.
  • If you are driving on Halloween night, make sure to drive with extreme caution and always stay alert.
