Fender Bender Tips

The only way to completely avoid an accident is to never drive. Since that is not very practical, chances are you will have to deal with a fender bender a few times in your life. To ensure that you know what to do in case of an accident, keep these tips in mind.

  • Check for injuries – once you get out of harm’s way and onto the side of the road, check to see if anyone is injured. If anyone is complaining of pain, no matter how small, call the paramedics. Even a small injury could turn into a much more serious issue down the line.
  • Call the police – even if nobody is injured, you still want to call the police. The police report will help when it comes time to make a claim to your insurance company. Having the police on site will also help to keep everyone’s tempers under control during the stressful situation.
  • Get the details – take notes of all important details at the scene of the accident. This includes license plate numbers, names of drivers, witnesses, and passengers, insurance policy numbers, location and time of the accident, and the weather and traffic conditions. Also, make sure that you get the name and badge number of any law enforcement that responds.
  • File a claim – call your insurance agent as soon as you leave the scene. The sooner you get in contact with your insurance agent, the sooner the claims process can start. Make sure to answer all of their questions to the best of your ability and truthfully.
